US Embassy warns of potential attack on US facilities in Nigeria, advising citizens to take precautions, vary routines, and stay alert in public spaces
The United States Diplomatic Mission to Nigeria has issued a security alert to American citizens, warning of a possible attack on United States facilities in Nigeria.

In a notice titled “Threat to U.S. Facilities and Schools,” the mission urged U.S. nationals to exercise additional caution when visiting the U.S. Embassy in Abuja, the U.S. Consulate General in Lagos, and U.S.-affiliated schools across the country.
The alert highlighted practical steps to reduce risk, including varying travel times and routes, maintaining situational awareness, avoiding predictable routines, and reviewing personal security plans with family members.
Other recommended actions include keeping a low profile, ensuring mobile phones are charged, staying alert in public areas, avoiding crowds and demonstrations, and familiarising oneself with emergency exits in buildings.

The diplomatic mission emphasised that heightened vigilance and precautionary measures can help U.S. citizens mitigate potential security threats while in Nigeria.
