Osun imposes strict curfew in Igbajo after unrest

Osun Governor Ademola Adeleke says his administration’s performance and servant-leadership style will secure his re-election in the August 15 governorship election

Governor Ademola Adeleke of Osun State has expressed confidence that his administration’s performance and leadership style will secure his re-election in the August 15 governorship election.

Adeleke made the statement on Wednesday while hosting members of the state chapter of the Ansarudeen Society of Nigeria at the Government House in Osogbo.

The governor said his administration’s achievements across key sectors—including the economy, education, sports, health, and agriculture—would guarantee electoral victory.

“When the opposition asked whether I deserve to be re-elected, I told them yes, based on my performance in this first term in office,” Adeleke said.

He added that his government has adhered to due process in governance by complying with procurement regulations, ensuring equitable distribution of infrastructure across the state, and upholding the rule of law.

The governor also highlighted the implementation of merit-based recruitment for teachers despite financial constraints and emphasised prudent management of public funds through verifiable projects and programmes.

According to Adeleke, his re-election campaign will revolve around an upgraded five-point agenda focusing on youth, women, and workers’ welfare and empowerment.

Other priorities include infrastructure consolidation to improve social and economic well-being, as well as agro-industrial expansion to boost human development and prosperity.

He further pledged to prioritise affordable healthcare, improved access to education, and the creation of a secure business environment to stimulate job opportunities across the state.

Adeleke also urged members of the Islamic society to pray for peaceful and credible elections.

“Today marks the starting point of campaigning for the governorship election. We need your prayers and support for a free and fair election through which the will of the people will prevail,” he said.

Earlier, the Secretary of the society in the state, Hafiz Akande, commended the governor’s performance, describing it as unprecedented in the state’s history.

Akande also appealed to the governor to assist the organisation in constructing a new mosque affected by a road dualisation project in Iwo town.
