Odigie lawsuit against Peller seeks N395m over alleged defamation, cyber harassment and privacy invasion in Lagos incident

Osarobo Odigie, a Lagos-based woman, has initiated legal proceedings against TikToker Habeeb Hamzat, popularly known as Peller, seeking N395 million in damages over alleged defamation, cyber harassment, and invasion of privacy.

In a pre-action letter dated March 10, 2026, signed by Bola Osineye of FA Garrick & Co., Odigie’s legal team detailed an encounter said to have occurred in the early hours of January 6, 2026, at Folixxx Lounge.

According to the letter, Odigie was at the venue to purchase food when she was startled by what was described as a loud outburst from Hamzat.

The lawyers alleged that Hamzat approached her aggressively and instructed her to “shut up” before resorting to verbal abuse, including Yoruba curses, after she asked him to moderate his conduct in a public space.

The Odigie lawsuit against Peller further claims that Hamzat recorded the confrontation without consent and shared the footage across multiple platforms, including TikTok, Instagram, Snapchat, and WhatsApp, where it quickly went viral.

The legal team argued that the publication subjected Odigie to widespread ridicule, triggering a wave of online abuse.

The claimant is said to have suffered significant emotional distress and developed fears for her safety following the incident.

In the demand, Odigie is seeking N200 million for defamatory publication, N100 million for emotional trauma and reputational harm, N75 million for distress linked to cyberbullying and threats, and N20 million to cover legal costs.

Beyond financial compensation, the lawyers are demanding the immediate removal of the content from all platforms and a clear public apology issued across Hamzat’s social media accounts and in two national newspapers.

Hamzat had earlier issued a public apology on January 9, acknowledging that his reaction was out of character.

However, the claimant’s legal representatives described the step as insufficient, insisting on a more comprehensive redress.

They warned that failure to comply with the demands within seven days would trigger formal legal action, marking a potentially high-profile and closely watched case involving online conduct and personal rights.
