Prince Eke Criticises Celebrities

Prince Eke slams celebrities for staying silent on bad governance, saying many entertainers prioritise political benefits over speaking out

Nollywood actor Prince Eke has criticised Nigerian celebrities for remaining largely silent on issues of bad governance, arguing that many entertainers prioritise political patronage over speaking out against national challenges. The actor made the remarks on Monday, 10 March 2026, through a post on his Instagram page.

Prince Eke said many public figures in the entertainment industry have failed to challenge corruption and poor governance because they hope to benefit from political campaigns and endorsements organised by politicians.

According to the actor, some entertainers prefer to wait for political opportunities rather than advocate reforms that could strengthen the creative industry and improve livelihoods for practitioners.

“The earlier you understand that most of these so-called celebrities are not worth being influenced by, the better for you,” Prince Eke wrote. “Actors and musicians alike watched Nigeria drown in corruption and bad governance and kept their mouths shut.”

Prince Eke argued that if Nigeria’s creative sector functioned effectively, many actors would still be earning royalties from films produced years ago. Instead, he said, several entertainers align themselves with political figures they privately criticise.

He further claimed that economic pressures within the industry have pushed some celebrities into compromising positions, describing the situation as a troubling reality for a sector often expected to influence public discourse.

“Many of them are broke, desperate, and perfectly willing to sell their conscience to the highest bidder,” the actor added, concluding with the remark that conscience alone does not guarantee financial survival.

Prince Eke’s comments have sparked conversation among fans and social media users about the role of celebrities in political advocacy and public accountability in Nigeria.
