Bwari network blackout MTN Glo disruption sparks outrage as residents report repeated service failures affecting businesses and banking in Abuja

Residents and business owners in Bwari Area Council of the Federal Capital Territory have raised fresh concerns over persistent mobile network disruptions affecting services provided by MTN Nigeria and Globacom, leaving communication and commercial activities severely disrupted.

The Bwari network blackout MTN Glo disruption worsened on Wednesday morning when subscribers across several communities reported a sudden loss of connectivity, with many unable to make calls, access mobile data, or complete online transactions.

Residents said the recurring network failures have become a long-standing challenge in the area, crippling businesses that rely heavily on internet connectivity and mobile banking services for daily operations.

One resident and comedian, Koboko Master, described the situation as frustrating and unpredictable, saying the network frequently disappears without warning, leaving users completely cut off from communication.

He said the inconsistency has made it difficult for residents to rely on mobile services for basic communication and digital access.

A local trader, Madam Ogochukwu Jennifer, who sells building materials in SCC Bwari, said the poor network coverage has significantly affected her business operations, especially payment transactions.

According to her, customers are often unable to transfer funds or complete purchases due to failed network connections, forcing business activities to stall.

A banker operating in the area, who spoke anonymously, also confirmed that the disruption is affecting financial transactions, noting that customers frequently visit branches due to failed mobile banking attempts.

He added that the situation has contributed to longer queues and increased pressure on banking operations within the community.

Social media users also expressed frustration over the blackout, with residents taking to local Facebook groups and X to confirm widespread service failure across Bwari and surrounding areas.

Some users suggested the issue may be location-specific, while others described it as a general outage affecting multiple networks simultaneously.

In response to complaints, MTN Nigeria apologised to a customer via social media and requested further details to investigate the disruption, though no formal public statement had been issued regarding the cause of the outage at the time of reporting.

Residents also noted that Globacom users are experiencing similar issues, with some alleging prolonged periods of poor or absent service without explanation.

Telecom customers in the area are calling for urgent intervention as the recurring disruptions continue to impact livelihoods, business operations, and access to essential digital services.
