APC Promises More Women in Politics

APC pledges stronger women representation ahead of 2027 elections, promising reforms to boost female participation in politics and governance

The National Chairman of the All Progressives Congress (APC), Nentawe Yilwatda, on Wednesday reaffirmed the party’s commitment to increasing women’s participation in politics ahead of the 2027 general elections during a meeting in Abuja, Nigeria.

Speaking at the party’s national secretariat while receiving members of the Forum of 2027 APC Female Aspirants Network, led by Nikky Onyeri, Yilwatda said the APC women representation 2027 elections agenda would form a key part of ongoing internal reforms aimed at strengthening inclusivity within the ruling party.

He stressed that women play a vital role in Nigeria’s political and social structure, noting that their numerical strength should translate into meaningful representation in governance and elective offices. According to him, the party is preparing deliberate measures to expand opportunities for women and young people within its structures.

Yilwatda explained that the APC is currently refining its ideological framework to reflect broader gender inclusion, adding that proposals on women’s representation would be considered by the party’s Ideology Committee. He also encouraged female aspirants to actively engage grassroots networks to strengthen political participation.

He further stated that women constitute a significant portion of the party’s membership base, urging them to convert that strength into stronger electoral influence.

The chairman noted that the party is open to policy reforms that may include improved access to nominations and increased participation in decision-making structures.

In their presentation, members of the female aspirants’ forum commended the party leadership and expressed support for President Bola Ahmed Tinubu.

They called for reserved seats for women, reduced nomination fees, protection from political violence, and a minimum 35 percent representation in party structures.

The group also pledged nationwide mobilisation ahead of the 2027 elections and announced plans for a large-scale rally in Abuja to promote women’s political inclusion.

Yilwatda assured the delegation that the party would continue to support inclusive participation across all levels, describing it as essential for democratic growth and political stability.
