ShowTime SBXIV flag football league launch kicks off in Nigeria with 10 teams, marking a bold new chapter in Africa’s professional flag football scene

Showtime Entertainment, led by its Founder and President Azeez Amida, has officially announced the return of the Showtime Bowl Series XIV (SBXIV), marking a major milestone in the growth of professional flag football in Africa as the league prepares for its season opener at the Showtime Arena on Sunday.

The ShowTime SBXIV flag football league launch introduces a renewed competitive structure featuring 10 teams drawn from across Nigeria, reinforcing the league’s ambition to expand regional representation and strengthen its professional sporting ecosystem.

Amida described the new season as a defining moment for the organisation, stressing that SBXIV represents both continuity and evolution in Africa’s emerging flag football landscape.

“This is more than just a season, it is a statement,” he said.

“We are building a professional sports ecosystem where athletes can dream, grow and succeed. SBXIV will show once again why Showtime is leading the flag football movement in Africa.”

The league, which has grown from modest beginnings into what organisers describe as Africa’s first professional flag football competition, continues to position itself as a platform for youth development, sporting excellence and entertainment innovation.

This season will feature Rivers Alphas, Lagos Knights, Ogun Horns, Delta Braves, Abia Warriors, Lagos Greenbacks, Lagos Rebels, Cross River Ikan, Ibom Raptors and Delta Panthers, each entering the competition with strong expectations and renewed ambition.

The opening day fixtures are scheduled to begin at 3:20 pm, with Rivers Alphas facing Lagos Knights, followed by Ogun Horns against Delta Braves at 4:40 pm.

Abia Warriors will meet Lagos Greenbacks at 6:00 pm, while Lagos Rebels take on Cross River Ikan at 7:20 pm. The day concludes with Ibom Raptors versus Delta Panthers at 8:40 pm.

Organisers say the expanded lineup reflects growing interest in the sport and a deliberate effort to build a structured national league system that encourages talent discovery and competitive balance.

The ShowTime SBXIV flag football league launch also underscores the league’s focus on professionalism, with increased emphasis on team identity, structured competition and long term athlete development.

Amida reiterated that the league is committed to raising standards each season, adding that the vision extends beyond competition to creating sustainable sporting careers for young athletes.

Industry observers note that SBXIV’s expansion signals rising momentum for flag football in Nigeria, a sport that continues to gain visibility through organised leagues and community engagement.

As anticipation builds ahead of kickoff, attention now turns to which team will establish early dominance in what promises to be a fiercely contested season.
