Taraba attack Tor-Damisa violence leaves at least seven dead after gunmen raid community and clash with police in Donga LGA

Tor-Damisa, Donga Local Government Area, Taraba State, 19 March 2026 A tragic and violent outbreak in Tor-Damisa community has left at least seven people dead following an armed invasion by suspected Fulani herdsmen on Wednesday evening, according to local sources and preliminary reports.

The Taraba attack Tor-Damisa violence unfolded when armed assailants reportedly stormed the rural community, opening sporadic gunfire that sent residents fleeing in panic as security operatives rushed to contain the situation.

The attackers are said to have engaged officers of the Taraba State Police Command in a fierce gun battle that lasted several minutes, turning the community into a scene of chaos and fear.

Preliminary accounts indicate that three police officers and four civilians lost their lives during the exchange of fire.

The confrontation has been described by residents as sudden, intense and deeply traumatic, with sustained gunfire echoing across the area.

Eyewitnesses said the attackers struck without warning in the evening hours, forcing families to abandon their homes as they sought safety in neighbouring communities.

The violence has since triggered widespread displacement within the locality.

The Taraba attack Tor-Damisa violence has left the community in a state of shock, with many residents still unaccounted for as search efforts continue informally within nearby settlements.

Efforts by journalists to obtain an official response from the Taraba State Police Command were unsuccessful at the time of filing this report.

The Police Public Relations Officer, Lasheh James, did not answer calls or respond to text messages.

Authorities have yet to release a formal statement confirming the full casualty figures or whether any arrests have been made in connection with the attack.
