Lagos DSVA arrest confirmed after a domestic violence suspect was arraigned over a viral case involving severe injury and court proceedings

The Lagos State Domestic and Sexual Violence Agency, DSVA, has confirmed the arrest and arraignment of a man accused of severing his partner’s finger in a suspected domestic violence incident that gained widespread attention after a viral video circulated on social media.

In a statement issued on Thursday, the agency disclosed that it became aware of the case through a video posted on TikTok and swiftly reached out to the victim to provide support and ensure the matter was formally reported to the appropriate authorities.

The Lagos DSVA arrest followed coordinated action with law enforcement agencies after the complaint was escalated.

The victim, who shared a distress video on March 22, said she was receiving treatment at an undisclosed hospital and appealed for assistance.

She also expressed frustration over what she initially perceived as a lack of response from authorities, noting that she was unable to upload further graphic evidence due to platform restrictions.

According to her account, the suspect allegedly attacked her at her residence, inflicted serious injuries, and fled with their child while issuing threats.

She also stated that the relationship had been strained for some time, indicating that they did not live together despite ongoing interactions.

The DSVA confirmed that preliminary findings showed the incident occurred on March 21, 2026, and was reported at the FESTAC Police Station Tactical Squad.

The case was subsequently transferred to the Family Support Unit for further investigation.

The agency added that the assault resulted in severe injuries, including the loss of a finger. Following investigation, the suspect was apprehended and charged to court on March 25, 2026, at Court 6, MBA Ajegunle.

The statement noted that the suspect has been remanded at the Kirikiri Maximum Security Custodial Centre pending further proceedings.

However, the court granted bail in the sum of 200,000 naira with two sureties, with the next hearing scheduled for April 29, 2026.

As part of its intervention, the DSVA said the survivor has been referred for psychosocial support to aid her recovery and overall well-being.

The agency reiterated its commitment to addressing cases of domestic and sexual violence through coordinated enforcement, victim support, and timely prosecution.

The development underscores the growing role of digital platforms in bringing urgent attention to abuse cases, as well as the increasing responsiveness of relevant authorities in handling such matters with urgency and care.
