Golf superstar Tiger Woods was involved in a car crash in Florida, with authorities investigating. Woods had recently returned to competitive golf after injuries

Golf legend Tiger Woods was involved in a car crash in Florida on Friday, according to the Martin County Sheriff’s Office.

The crash occurred just after 2 p.m. ET in Woods’ hometown, with his SUV reportedly turned on its driver’s side, a photo by WPTV in West Palm Beach showed.

No details have yet been released about the cause of the accident or Woods’ current condition. Police are investigating, and a county sheriff is scheduled to brief reporters at 5 p.m. ET.

Woods, 50, had been recovering from a ruptured Achilles tendon and back surgery in October. He recently returned to competitive golf during Tuesday’s TGL finals, where his Jupiter Links GC team lost to the Los Angeles Golf Club.

The 15-time major champion had been considering a return to the PGA Tour at the Masters at Augusta National Golf Club, the first major of the 2026 season, which begins April 9.

Woods last competed in a PGA Tour event in July 2024 at the Open Championship in Scotland and last played all four rounds at the 2024 Masters.

This is not Woods’ first serious car accident. In February 2021, he suffered severe leg injuries in a one-car crash outside Los Angeles, where his SUV rolled multiple times, leaving him trapped.

Emergency surgery included placement of a rod in his tibia and screws and pins in his foot and ankle.

Woods was hospitalized for three weeks following the incident and had at least one additional surgery in April 2023 related to the crash.

Reflecting on his 2021 crash, Woods described the accident as life-threatening, saying, “I’m lucky to be alive and also have a limb,” adding that amputation of part of his right leg had been a 50/50 possibility.

Authorities are continuing to investigate Friday’s crash, and further updates on Woods’ condition are expected following the sheriff’s briefing.
