Zamfara attack gunmen kill three and burn homes in Dangoro village, as police repel bandits and launch manhunt for suspects

Gunmen have killed three people and set several houses and silos ablaze in Dangoro village, Bungudu Local Government Area of Zamfara State, in a late-night attack that has heightened security concerns in the region.

The incident, which occurred on March 28 at about 10:30pm, was confirmed by the Zamfara State Police Command spokesperson, Yazid Abubakar.

According to him, a group of heavily armed bandits wielding AK-47 rifles stormed the community through Nahuche District, firing indiscriminately and destroying property.

“Upon receipt of the report, a joint team of police operatives and vigilante members swiftly mobilised and responded to the scene,” Abubakar said, adding that security forces engaged the attackers in a gun duel and successfully repelled them.

He noted that the assailants fled into the bush with possible gunshot injuries following the confrontation.

“Regrettably, three people lost their lives during the incident, including a member of the Community Protection Guard,” he said.

The attack also left five people with gunshot wounds and four others with varying degrees of burn injuries. Several houses, food silos, and livestock were destroyed in what residents described as a devastating assault on the agrarian community.

All injured victims have been evacuated to the Federal Medical Centre in Gusau, where they are receiving treatment and are said to be responding positively.

The Commissioner of Police, Ahmad Muhammad, assured residents of intensified efforts to track down the perpetrators and restore calm.

Authorities have urged residents to remain vigilant and cooperate with security agencies by providing credible information as investigations continue.

The latest violence underscores the persistent threat posed by armed bandits in Zamfara and other parts of north-west Nigeria, where attacks on rural communities continue to disrupt livelihoods and food security.
