Kebbi windstorm destruction leaves homes and food storage ruined in Suru LGA, with officials promising urgent government intervention

A devastating windstorm has swept through several communities in Suru Local Government Area of Kebbi State, north-west Nigeria, leaving a trail of destruction that has displaced families and damaged property worth millions of naira.

It affected multiple communities, including Sambera, Jeroki, Becinga, Nassarawa, Tunga Soja, Tauken Mage, Tunga Muminu Oro and Ciwan Wanzam, where residents are now counting their losses.

The incident occurred on Wednesday night, according to a Member of the Kebbi State House of Assembly representing Suru Constituency, Faruku Abubakar Maisudan, who visited the affected areas to assess the damage and sympathise with victims.

He described widespread destruction of homes and food storage facilities, noting that many families were left without shelter after their houses were either damaged or completely blown away.

Despite the scale of devastation, authorities confirmed that no lives were lost in the incident.

“My heart goes out to you in this difficult moment, and I urge you to accept it as a trial from Almighty Allah,” Maisudan told affected residents during his visit.

Lawmaker assured victims that he would present their situation before the State Assembly and Governor Nasir Idris, with a view to securing urgent government intervention.

“I will ensure your condition is presented to the appropriate authorities so that immediate support can reach you without delay,” he added.

Officials of the Kebbi State Emergency Management Agency, who accompanied the lawmaker on the assessment tour, also pledged swift response and the distribution of relief materials to affected communities.

The destruction has once again highlighted the vulnerability of rural settlements to extreme weather conditions, raising calls for stronger disaster preparedness and support systems across the state.
