Mobalufon fire incident in Ijebu Ode sparks outrage as residents lament lack of functional firefighting vehicles

A popular relaxation and commercial spot around the Mobalufon Under Bridge area in Ijebu Ode was destroyed by fire on Friday, triggering outrage among residents over the alleged absence of functional firefighting equipment in the town.

Witnesses said the blaze razed parts of the busy area, which is widely known as a social and business hub in Ijebu Ode, leaving business owners and residents devastated by the losses.

Although the cause of the fire had not been officially confirmed as of Saturday, residents expressed frustration over what they described as the inability of emergency responders to contain the situation promptly.

Several locals claimed that no functional firefighting vehicle was available in the town during the incident, forcing residents and traders to battle the flames with limited resources.

The Mobalufon fire incident has since sparked criticism of the Ogun State Government, with some residents questioning the state’s infrastructure priorities.

Critics argued that despite ongoing investments in projects such as the state’s cargo airport, emergency response services in key urban centres remain inadequate.

One resident described the development as disturbing, noting that communities should not be left vulnerable during emergencies because of poor firefighting capacity.

The incident also generated reactions on social media, where residents called on the Ogun State Government and emergency management authorities to investigate the circumstances surrounding the fire and improve disaster response infrastructure across the state.

As of the time of filing this report, no casualty figures had been released, while officials were yet to issue a comprehensive statement on the extent of the damage caused by the blaze.
