FUTA confirms the death of a Year One student found near his off-campus residence in Akure as police begin investigation
The Federal University of Technology Akure (Federal University of Technology Akure) has confirmed the death of a Year One student, Favour Olaniyi, from the Department of Surveying and Geoinformatics, who was found lifeless near his off-campus residence on Saturday.

In a statement issued on Sunday, the Director of Corporate Communication and Protocol, Mr Adegbenro Adebanjo, said the university management immediately activated its security response after the incident was reported.
According to the statement, the university’s security unit promptly notified the police, who deployed officers to the scene while medical personnel assisted in evacuating the body to the morgue.
Adebanjo confirmed that the parents of the deceased student had been informed about the tragic development.
He stated that police authorities have commenced a full investigation into the circumstances surrounding the death, while the university is cooperating fully with the process.
The management of Federal University of Technology Akure also disclosed that counselling support is being provided to students who may have been emotionally affected by the incident.
Adebanjo added that the university’s Students Affairs Division remains committed to offering psychological and guidance services to students facing challenges both on and off campus.
He further encouraged students to make use of available counselling resources whenever they encounter personal or academic difficulties.

The incident has left members of the university community in shock, as authorities continue efforts to establish the cause of death.
