NYSC announces fresh verification for foreign graduates

thenacre-campaign

The National Youth Service Corps has announced a five-day physical verification exercise for foreign-trained Nigerian graduates whose credentials and travel documents are yet to be verified, with the exercise scheduled to take place across nine centres from Tuesday, September 8 to Saturday, September 12, 2026, ahead of the 2026 Batch C Stream I service year.

The NYSC verification exercise is intended for affected prospective corps members whose documents remain outstanding after online registration, with the scheme directing candidates to appear at the date, time and venue stated on their verification slips.

The announcement, shared by the NYSC on Thursday, September 3, comes as the scheme prepares for the next phase of mobilisation and seeks to ensure that foreign-trained graduates entering the national service programme have their academic and travel documents properly authenticated.

The nine designated centres are located in Enugu, Bauchi, the Federal Capital Territory, Kano, Lagos, Osun, Rivers, Sokoto and Adamawa.

In Enugu, the exercise will take place at the NYSC Secretariat on 2 Abakaliki Road, GRA. Candidates assigned to Bauchi are expected at Shadawanka Military Barracks, while those in the FCT will report to the NYSC Orientation Camp in Kubwa, Abuja.

The Kano centre is at Bukavu Military Barracks, Fagge, Airport Road, while Lagos candidates are to appear at the NYSC Orientation Camp, Iyana Ipaja.

The Osun centre is the NYSC Secretariat on New Ikirun Road, Osogbo. In Rivers, verification will be conducted at the NYSC Secretariat on 40 Ikwerre Road, Port Harcourt.

Candidates assigned to Sokoto will report to the Eagle Officers’ Mess at Giginya Cantonment, Gusau Road, while the Adamawa exercise will take place at the NYSC Secretariat, Federal Secretariat Complex, Yola.

The NYSC has urged prospective corps members to attend strictly according to the date, time and venue printed on their verification slips.

The directive is intended to maintain order and prevent unnecessary overcrowding at the centres.

The requirement is part of the scheme’s broader system for scrutinising credentials submitted by Nigerians who obtained their qualifications outside the country.

NYSC says its Foreign Trained Division is responsible for evaluating such credentials, liaising with relevant regulatory bodies and carrying out physical verification for mobilisation purposes.

According to the scheme’s official requirements, foreign-trained graduates are expected to present original academic documents, including their first degree or HND certificate, complete official transcript and relevant secondary school qualification.

Online result printouts are not accepted in place of original certificates.

Candidates whose documents were issued in countries where English is not the language of instruction are also required to provide English translations before presentation.

NYSC further states that scanned copies and photocopies of credentials are not acceptable for the physical verification process.

Medical graduates face additional documentation requirements.

NYSC requires them to provide relevant professional registration or licensing documents issued by their professional bodies, alongside their academic credentials.

The scheme’s rules also make clear that candidates cannot rely solely on electronic submission.

NYSC states that physical verification of uploaded credentials is required and that candidates whose documents remain unverified may not proceed through the mobilisation process in the normal manner.

The importance of the exercise was underscored in previous NYSC verification notices, which similarly directed foreign-trained prospective corps members with outstanding verification to appear at designated centres with their credentials and travel documents.

The same nine locations have been used in earlier 2026 verification exercises, reflecting NYSC’s established regional arrangement for handling the process.

NYSC’s published mobilisation information also shows that physical verification forms part of the wider transition from online registration and document screening to deployment and orientation.

The scheme explains that documents are first examined electronically, after which eligible candidates proceed through the physical verification process.

For foreign-trained graduates, the exercise therefore represents more than an administrative appointment.

Successful verification can determine whether a prospective corps member progresses towards mobilisation, while unresolved or questionable documentation can trigger further checks with relevant authorities.

The NYSC has also warned that questionable credentials may be referred to the Federal Ministry of Education or other appropriate bodies for verification.

This reflects the scheme’s continuing emphasis on document authenticity in the mobilisation of graduates trained outside Nigeria.

The September exercise is expected to provide the final opportunity for affected 2026 Batch C Stream I candidates to regularise outstanding physical verification before the subsequent stages of mobilisation.

Prospective corps members are consequently advised to check their NYSC dashboards and verification slips carefully, confirm their assigned centre and arrive with the original documents required for their category.

With the 2026 Batch C Stream I mobilisation cycle approaching, the exercise is another crucial checkpoint for foreign-trained Nigerian graduates seeking to participate in the national service programme.
