Lagos APC 2027 Reps primaries gather momentum with fierce contests, crowded constituencies and major political showdowns
The Lagos State chapter of the All Progressives Congress is set for intense political contests on Saturday as aspirants across 21 federal constituencies prepare for the party’s 2027 House of Representatives primaries.

The exercise, scheduled for 16 May, has drawn heavyweight politicians, former lawmakers, council chairmen and new entrants into what party insiders describe as one of the fiercest internal contests in recent years.
Three aspirants emerged unopposed ahead of the primaries. Speaker of the Lagos State House of Assembly, Mudashiru Obasa, secured a sole ticket in Agege, while Fuad Kayode Laguda and Benjamin Adeyemi Olabinjo also emerged as lone contenders in their constituencies.
Oshodi-Isolo recorded the largest concentration of aspirants, with a combined 16 contestants across its two constituencies, underlining the strategic political importance of the area. Lagos Mainland followed with seven aspirants battling for the party’s ticket.
Some of the most closely watched contests are expected in Mushin II, where APC spokesman Seye Oladejo will face businessman Toyin Fayinka in a high-stakes showdown.
In Somolu, former national president of the Association of Local Governments of Nigeria, Kolade Alabi, will battle former Somolu Local Government chairman Abdul-Hammed Salawu, popularly known as Dullar, alongside former lawmaker Rotimi Olowo and Mojisola Kassim.
Another powerful contest is unfolding in Oshodi-Isolo I, where Nollywood actress Foluke Daramola-Salako is contesting alongside several former council chairmen and established political figures.
In Ikeja, incumbent lawmaker James Faleke faces a challenge from Olufunke Hassan, while Ikorodu features another notable battle between serving legislator Jimi Benson and Olugbenga Shittu.
Kosofe also promises a dramatic contest involving incumbent federal lawmaker Kafilat Ogbara, former commissioner Yetunde Arobieke and former council chairman Dele Osinowo.
Political observers believe the Lagos APC 2027 Reps primaries could shape the future power structure within the ruling party ahead of the general elections, particularly as several constituencies feature established political families and influential grassroots operators.
