Agboola Alfred Ese-Odo rotation warning issued as former Ondo deputy governor urges preservation of 1999 Apoi–Arogbo power-sharing arrangement

Former Deputy Governor of Ondo State, Ajayi Agboola Alfred, on Sunday issued a strong appeal to political stakeholders in Ese-Odo Local Government Area, calling for strict adherence to the long-standing power rotation arrangement between the Apoi and Arogbo communities.

Agboola Alfred issues warning over Ese-Odo rotation, where arrangement was contained in a public statement in which the former deputy governor described the zoning formula as a crucial framework for peace, unity, and political stability in the region.

He stressed that the arrangement, which has been in place since 1999, was deliberately designed to promote fairness, mutual trust, and peaceful coexistence among both communities in Ondo State.

Agboola Alfred noted that the rotational understanding has helped to reduce political tension over the years while ensuring inclusiveness across both blocs, adding that it should not be altered for personal or political convenience.

Recounting his involvement in the early development of the agreement, he said political stakeholders had previously resisted attempts to disrupt the zoning structure, particularly during the tenure of the late Dr Francis Ajih as Chairman of Ese-Odo Local Government Council.

He explained that despite pressure from certain political interests at the time, leaders across party lines maintained the arrangement, which eventually contributed to the emergence of representatives from both communities at various levels of governance.

The former deputy governor warned that any attempt to deviate from the established understanding could destabilise the fragile balance between the Apoi and Arogbo communities and reignite avoidable political tensions.

He specifically emphasised that the House of Assembly seat, in line with the agreement, should be ceded to the Arogbo community in the next cycle, urging stakeholders to respect the existing structure.

Agboola Alfred also appealed to political actors, including Hon. Toyin Allen, to avoid actions that could undermine the peace and stability currently enjoyed within the local government.

Reaffirming his commitment to the arrangement, he urged leaders to prioritise collective interest over personal ambition, describing unity as essential for development and long-term stability.

He concluded by calling on politicians and community leaders to uphold fairness, honour existing agreements, and ensure peaceful coexistence for the benefit of future generations.
