APM Lagos aspirants 2027 elections move forward as the party clears governorship, senatorial and assembly candidates

The Allied Peoples Movement in Lagos State says it has concluded the screening of aspirants seeking to contest elective positions on the party’s platform ahead of the 2027 general elections.

Chairman of the Lagos State Screening Committee, Abiodun Abari, disclosed this during an interview with the News Agency of Nigeria on Saturday in Lagos after the completion of the exercise.

Abiodun Abari said the five-member committee screened the party’s consensus governorship aspirant, Laja Adeoye, alongside other aspirants contesting for senatorial, House of Representatives and Lagos State House of Assembly positions.

According to him, the committee screened three senatorial aspirants, 24 aspirants for the House of Representatives and 40 aspirants seeking seats in the Lagos State House of Assembly.

He stated that all aspirants were successfully cleared and would be affirmed as consensus candidates during the party’s primary elections.

“The screening went in accordance with the party guidelines seamlessly. We were able to screen and clear all the aspirants because the party was able to arrive at consensus for all the positions,” Abiodun Abari said.

The committee chairman described the screening process as a critical quality assurance measure aimed at presenting credible candidates to Lagos residents ahead of the next election cycle.

According to him, achieving consensus among aspirants initially proved challenging but was eventually resolved through unity among party leaders and members.

“Other aspirants decided to sacrifice their ambition for the greater good of the party and the state,” he added.

Abiodun Abari further revealed that the Peoples Democratic Party mainstream faction was using the APM platform under a coalition arrangement formed ahead of the 2027 elections.

The development, he said, had strengthened the opposition’s prospects in Lagos State and positioned the APM as a formidable alternative political force.

“With the alliance, the APM has become the main opposition in Lagos State for the 2027 election. This is the party to watch out for,” he said.

Speaking after being screened, Laja Adeoye said he had fulfilled all legal and electoral requirements stipulated by the Independent National Electoral Commission.

“In accordance with the Nigerian Electoral Act and the guidelines of the Independent National Electoral Commission, I appeared today for the Lagos State Governorship screening of the APM,” Adeoye said.

The governorship aspirant described the screening as another important step in what he called efforts to “reset Lagos”, while expressing confidence in the coalition’s chances ahead of the polls.

The APM Lagos aspirants 2027 elections process comes amid increasing political realignments and coalition-building among opposition parties seeking to challenge the ruling establishment in Lagos State.
