Wike Tinubu FCT projects will improve APC electoral fortunes in 2027, the FCT minister says after project inspections

The Minister of the Federal Capital Territory Administration, Nyesom Wike, on Tuesday expressed confidence that President Bola Tinubu and the ruling All Progressives Congress would record improved electoral performance in the Federal Capital Territory during the 2027 general elections due to ongoing infrastructural development across the territory.

Wike spoke after inspecting several projects scheduled for commissioning as part of activities marking Tinubu’s second anniversary in office.

According to the minister, residents are beginning to feel the impact of governance, especially in satellite towns and rural communities that had long suffered neglect and inadequate infrastructure.

“What the people want is simple. They want to feel the impact of governance. Nigerians are interested in good governance, infrastructure, electricity and improved living conditions,” Wike said.

The minister argued that the ongoing Wike Tinubu FCT projects were already changing public perception of governance in the capital territory.

Responding to questions about whether the projects could influence voting patterns ahead of 2027, Wike said the APC’s showing in the recent Area Council elections reflected growing support for the administration.

“What reason would people have not to vote for Mr President now? How many governments before now have been able to impact satellite towns the way this administration is?” he asked.

“This is the first time people are seeing development extend beyond the city centre into the satellite towns.”

Wike cited the commissioning of the A2-Pai Road in Kwali as a significant intervention, noting that it was the first time a sitting Nigerian president had visited the area to inaugurate a project.

The minister also challenged opposition politicians to inspect projects being executed across the FCT.

“I think it will be interesting for the public to see governance in action. They should come and see what is happening in the FCT,” he added.

Wike disclosed that at least 20 projects would be inaugurated during the anniversary celebrations, although the figure could increase as additional projects approach completion.

The projects include roads, judicial infrastructure, relocation sites and water schemes spread across various parts of the territory.

Among the ongoing interventions listed by the minister are the Gomani-Yangoji Road, the Kuje-Gwagwalada Road, and projects in Abuja Municipal Area Council and Bwari Area Council.

The inspection tour covered the rehabilitation of the Appeal Court Complex in Dakibiyu, Judges’ Quarters in Katampe, internal roads in Katampe District and the relocation site for the Apo Mechanic Village.

Wike said work on the Dakibiyu Appeal Court Complex had reached about 70 per cent completion, with finishing works currently underway.

He also inspected residential quarters built for judges of the Court of Appeal, Federal High Court and FCT High Court, describing the facilities as nearly completed.

The minister further visited proposed residential quarters for judges of the Industrial Court and members of the Code of Conduct Tribunal, praising contractors for the pace of work.

At the Apo informal sector relocation site being developed for traders from the Apo Mechanic Village, Wike said roads and streetlights had already been completed while work on water supply and security infrastructure would commence soon.

The Wike Tinubu FCT projects, according to the minister, reflect an inclusive development strategy designed to improve living conditions in both urban centres and rural communities across the Federal Capital Territory.
