Lagos APC crisis deepens as Tinubu’s daughter rejects Justice Forum and Mandate Movement over alleged manipulation of party primaries

The Lagos State chapter of the All Progressives Congress (APC) Lagos APC Crisis Deepens intensified on Wednesday as Mrs Folashade Tinubu-Ojo, Iyaloja-General of Nigeria and daughter of President Bola Tinubu, publicly called for the disbandment of two dominant party blocs, the Justice Forum and the Mandate Movement, over allegations of manipulation in recent party primaries in Lagos State.

Mrs Tinubu-Ojo made the remarks during a stakeholders’ meeting with market leaders in Alausa, Ikeja, where she accused the factions of undermining internal democracy in the party’s selection process for legislative candidates in constituencies including Mushin, Agege, and Ojokoro.

The intervention marks one of the most direct internal rebukes from within the ruling political family in Lagos in recent months, further heightening tensions already simmering within the state chapter of the APC.

The Crisis emerged against a backdrop of renewed disputes over alleged irregularities in the House of Representatives primaries, with aspirants and supporters accusing party structures of substituting declared winners with preferred candidates.

Mrs Tinubu-Ojo insisted that some aspirants who allegedly won their primaries had their mandates altered through internal party manoeuvres.

She described the situation as unacceptable and warned that continued disregard for internal fairness could destabilise the party ahead of the 2027 general elections.

She also criticised what she termed political marginalisation of market stakeholders, arguing that traders had played a significant role in the party’s electoral success in Lagos State without receiving corresponding recognition or appointments.

In a striking statement that underscored the escalating tone of the dispute, she called for a review of the influence wielded by the Justice Forum and Mandate Movement, both of which have long functioned as powerful internal blocs shaping candidate selection and political alignment within the Lagos APC.

Secondary developments from the meeting indicated rising frustration among some party members, with reports of threatened protests in Mushin Constituency over the alleged substitution of candidates after primaries.

Analysts say the latest intervention reflects widening fractures within the party’s internal structure, where competition between the two dominant factions has frequently shaped political outcomes in Lagos.

The renewed confrontation now raises concerns over cohesion within the party as it approaches a critical electoral cycle.

Crisis Deepens continues to dominate political discourse in the state, with observers warning that unresolved grievances could escalate further if party leadership fails to initiate a credible reconciliation process.
