Wike Urges Nigerians to Give Government Feedback as FCT Minister calls for constructive criticism and citizen suggestions in Abuja briefing

The Minister of the Federal Capital Territory, Nyesom Wike, has urged Nigerians to actively provide feedback to government authorities on issues they believe require attention, saying public engagement remains essential for effective governance.

Nyesom Wike made the remarks on Monday during his monthly media briefing in Abuja, where he addressed concerns about public criticism and citizen participation in government affairs.

The FCT Minister stated that government officials are human and cannot have knowledge of every challenge affecting citizens across the country.

Wike Urges Nigerians to Give Government Feedback as a mechanism for strengthening accountability, noting that constructive engagement from the public can help improve decision making and service delivery.

According to him, citizens should move beyond criticism and instead offer practical suggestions that can assist government officials in addressing pressing issues.

“You can call our attention. Make your own suggestions to the government. The government does not know everything. I’m human,” Wike said.

He added that constructive criticism should be encouraged, stressing that the role of citizens is not limited to pointing out faults but also includes contributing ideas for improvement.

“It’s not by coming out to criticize and fault what the government is doing. Nobody has called my attention. What good citizens should do is to call the attention of the government,” he said.

The remarks come amid ongoing debates about governance and accountability in Nigeria, with public officials increasingly calling for stronger collaboration between government institutions and citizens.

A secondary highlight of the briefing was Wike’s emphasis on shared responsibility in governance, a message that has continued to shape discussions around civic participation and transparency in public administration.

The Minister’s comments have added renewed focus to citizen-government relations, with observers noting the importance of communication channels in addressing infrastructure, service delivery and policy concerns across the Federal Capital Territory.
