Ogun Police False Criminals Alert debunked after officers confirmed 21 road workers were lawfully engaged on the Ifo-Ibogun project

The Ogun State Police Command has dismissed reports alleging that a bus conveying suspected criminals was sighted along the Ibogun Road axis in Ifo, confirming instead that the occupants were legitimate road construction workers engaged on a federal project.

The clarification followed a security alert that circulated within the community, prompting concern among residents over the presence of the vehicle.

According to the command, police surveillance and anti-robbery teams responded swiftly after receiving intelligence on June 3, 2026.

Officers moved to the area and found that the bus had been intercepted by some youths who suspected its occupants of criminal activities.

Further investigation revealed that the vehicle was conveying 21 labourers employed by a construction company handling the reconstruction and rehabilitation of the Ifo-Ibogun Road.

The police said verification carried out by officers confirmed that the workers were legitimately engaged for the ongoing federal road project.

The command described the report linking the labourers to criminal activities as false and unfounded.

Following the verification, police officers assured the workers of their safety and escorted them to their work site to prevent any disruption to the project.

The development highlighted the importance of prompt security responses and effective verification of intelligence reports before conclusions are drawn.

The Ogun State Police Command also cautioned members of the public against spreading unverified information capable of causing unnecessary panic, tension and harassment of law-abiding citizens.

Police spokesperson DSP Oluseyi B. Babaseyi said residents should continue to cooperate with security agencies by providing credible information while avoiding the circulation of rumours that could undermine public confidence and safety.
