The victims were freed on Tuesday night during a joint operation involving police operatives, vigilantes and local hunters aimed at flushing out criminal elements in the area.

According to a statement by FCT Police Public Relations Officer Josephine Adeh, the operation was led by the Commissioner of Police, CP Ahmed Sanusi, alongside operatives of the Anti-Kidnapping Unit, the Intelligence Response Team and Kubwa Area Command.

The team reportedly launched a sustained search and rescue operation following recent kidnapping incidents in the Paze community.

During the encounter, security operatives engaged suspected kidnappers in a gun duel, resulting in the death of two suspects, while two others were arrested.

The arrested suspects were identified as Icheh Mohammadu and Abubakar Usman, while other members of the gang escaped with gunshot injuries into nearby hills.

The police also recovered two AK-47 rifles with magazines during the operation.

Authorities warned that fleeing suspects may seek medical attention for gunshot wounds and urged hospitals to report any suspicious cases.

“The sustained pressure mounted on the criminal elements forced them to abandon five hostages, who were promptly rescued unharmed,” the statement said.

The rescued victims are currently receiving medical care, while efforts continue to track down fleeing members of the criminal gang and dismantle their network.
