Blue Lagos, LASHMA deepen telemedicine reach in Lagos communities

Blue Lagos and LASHMA partner to expand telemedicine services across 152 riverine and coastal communities to improve healthcare access in Lagos State

Blue Lagos Initiatives has entered into a strategic partnership with the Lagos State Health Management Agency (LASHMA) to expand access to healthcare through a new telemedicine scheme targeting 152 riverine and coastal communities across Lagos State.

The collaboration was formalised during a high-level meeting between a Blue Lagos delegation led by its Convener, Mr Saheed Adesanya, and the management team of LASHMA headed by Permanent Secretary Dr Emmanuella Zamba.

The discussions focused on innovative healthcare delivery models aimed at improving access in underserved and hard-to-reach communities.

Under the initiative, residents in riverine and coastal settlements will be able to access medical consultations remotely, including diagnosis support, referrals, follow-up care and general health advice. The system is expected to reduce the burden of distance and transportation challenges that often hinder timely healthcare delivery in these areas.

Speaking on the partnership, Mr Adesanya described the initiative as a major step toward bridging healthcare inequality and improving the wellbeing of residents in vulnerable communities.

“Healthcare remains a fundamental need for every citizen. This partnership demonstrates our shared commitment to ensuring that residents of riverine and coastal communities are not left behind in accessing quality healthcare services,” he said.

He added that technology-driven solutions remain essential in closing existing gaps and bringing healthcare services closer to the people.

Dr Zamba, in her remarks, reaffirmed LASHMA’s commitment to expanding access to quality healthcare and supporting initiatives that advance universal health coverage in Lagos State.

She stressed the importance of partnerships and digital innovation in reaching vulnerable populations and strengthening the state’s healthcare system.

The proposed telemedicine programme is expected to improve health outcomes, encourage preventive care, and enhance access to professional medical support for thousands of residents across Lagos’ coastal communities.

Both organisations agreed to continue engagements on implementation strategies, community sensitisation and stakeholder mobilisation to ensure effective rollout and sustainability of the project.

The initiative aligns with the Lagos State Government’s broader vision of inclusive development and improved quality of life across all communities in the state.
