Apostle Suleman condemns Nigeria’s political class on Democracy Day, calling it a “government of a few” and decrying worsening insecurity

The Senior Pastor and General Overseer of Omega Fire Ministries International, Apostle Johnson Suleman, on June 12, 2026, issued a strong rebuke of Nigeria’s political leadership during his Democracy Day message, describing the nation’s governance structure as a system controlled by a privileged few, in what he termed a deeply troubling state of affairs.

Apostle Johnson Suleman delivered the message while reflecting on Nigeria’s democratic journey, security challenges, and governance failures, stating that the ideals of democracy have been distorted over time by the political class.

He questioned the progress of the nation since independence in 1960, noting that the vision of the founding fathers had been weakened by years of military rule and poor civilian governance that followed.

According to him, the country has lost the essence of democratic governance, which he defined as a system meant to serve all citizens equally.

Apostle Suleman Democracy Day message Nigeria further intensified as he criticised what he described as the redefinition of democracy by political leaders.

“Today, as we mark Democracy Day, it appears our current political leaders have redefined the term into a government of a few, by a few, and for a few,” he said.

He argued that insecurity remains one of the clearest indicators of governance failure, stressing that ordinary Nigerians continue to suffer while public officials enjoy protection and safety.

Apostle Johnson Suleman lamented that kidnappings, violence, and attacks on vulnerable citizens have become widespread, particularly affecting children, women, and educators.

“Outside those walls, our children are kidnapped and maimed, women are assaulted by violent actors, and the educators who provide our youth with hope are slaughtered like sacrificial animals,” he stated.

He maintained that the core responsibility of any government is the protection of lives and property, insisting that failure in this regard represents a breakdown of democratic governance.

The cleric added that rather than celebrating Democracy Day, many Nigerians are experiencing fear, hardship, and uncertainty due to worsening security and economic conditions.

“Today, we should be celebrating freedom and development. Instead, we are weeping, anxious, and deeply worried,” he said.

Apostle Suleman concluded his message with prayers for national transformation, calling for a renewal of leadership and a system that prioritises justice, peace, and development.

He prayed for what he described as “authentic leaders” who would restore stability and progress to the country, urging divine intervention in Nigeria’s political direction.
