Ondo woman cutlass attack case sees suspect arraigned after allegedly injuring her husband with a cutlass during a domestic dispute in Akure

The Ondo State Police Command has arrested and arraigned Olatunde Mary over allegations of spousal battery and grievous bodily harm after she allegedly attacked her husband, Olatunde Julius, with a cutlass during a domestic dispute in Akure.

The incident was reported to the Gender-Based Violence Unit at the Ondo State Police Command Headquarters on June 3, according to the Command’s Public Relations Officer, DSP Abayomi Jimoh.

Jimoh said the violent confrontation occurred on June 2 at about 2:30 p.m. in the Ilado II area along Igbatoro Road in Akure, following a heated argument between the couple.

Preliminary investigations by the police revealed that during the altercation, Olatunde Mary allegedly attacked her husband with a cutlass, inflicting a deep wound on his left hand.

The victim reportedly sustained severe injuries and was immediately taken to a medical facility, where doctors treated him and documented the extent of the wound for investigative purposes.

Following the report, detectives attached to the Gender-Based Violence Unit launched a swift investigation into the incident.

Police investigators obtained statements from both parties and gathered supporting evidence as part of efforts to establish the circumstances surrounding the alleged assault.

According to the Command, investigators found sufficient evidence to establish a prima facie case against the suspect, leading to her arrest and subsequent arraignment before a competent court.

Commenting on the development, Jimoh said the Command remains firm in its commitment to tackling all forms of domestic violence and ensuring that offenders are held accountable.

“The Ondo State Police Command views all forms of domestic violence as a serious threat to the safety, dignity and well-being of individuals and remains committed to ensuring that perpetrators are held accountable regardless of gender, status or relationship with the victim,” he said.

The police spokesperson also urged residents to promptly report incidents of domestic abuse and gender-based violence to the nearest police station or designated units for timely intervention.

Reaffirming the Command’s resolve, the Commissioner of Police assured members of the public that all cases involving vulnerable persons would continue to receive diligent investigation and prosecution.

The Ondo Woman Cutlass Attack case highlights growing concerns over domestic violence and the need for early reporting and intervention to prevent disputes from escalating into serious physical harm.
