Gombe Police Arrest Man accused of attacking his girlfriend with a hammer, attempting to strangle her and stealing ₦100,000

Gombe State Police Command has arrested 35-year-old Musa Adamu over an alleged violent attack on his girlfriend, whom he is accused of assaulting with a hammer, attempting to strangle and rob of ₦100,000 in Gombe.

The arrest followed a complaint lodged by the victim at the Pantami Divisional Police Headquarters, according to the Police Public Relations Officer, DSP Buhari Abdullahi.

Police said the incident occurred at about 2:00 a.m. when Musa Adamu allegedly gained unlawful access to the victim’s residence by scaling the fence before forcefully entering her room.

Investigators said the woman sustained serious injuries during the attack. Police operatives who responded to the report visited the scene and arranged for the victim to receive urgent medical treatment at a hospital.

Medical personnel later discharged the woman after treatment.

As part of the investigation, officers recovered an iron hammer suspected to be stained with blood and a USB cable believed to have been used during the attack.

Preliminary findings revealed that the suspect had earlier requested money from the victim, a businesswoman, but the request was declined.

Investigators are examining whether the refusal may have contributed to the incident.

The case has drawn attention because of the alleged combination of violence, attempted strangulation and robbery, highlighting concerns about personal safety and domestic-related crimes.

The suspect remains in police custody while investigations continue. Authorities said he would be charged in court once the investigation is concluded.

DSP Buhari Abdullahi reaffirmed the command’s commitment to protecting lives and property across the state.

The police spokesman also urged residents to promptly report suspicious individuals and criminal activities to the nearest police station.

The arrest marks another decisive step in the command’s efforts to tackle violent crime and ensure that offenders are brought to justice.
