For international patients considering dental implant treatment in Nigeria, logistical concerns such as travel schedules, treatment duration, and recovery time are often as important as the procedure itself.

At Perfect Aesthetic Dental Clinic, led by Dr. Precious Isogie (Dr. P) in Lagos, treatment for overseas and diaspora patients is organized through a structured four-phase process designed to accommodate international travel schedules. The protocol typically involves two visits to Nigeria separated by a remote healing period.

The process begins remotely, usually two to four weeks before patients travel to Lagos. During this stage, patients submit available diagnostic materials, including CT scans, dental X-rays, photographs, and medical records.

Based on these documents, Dr. P and her team evaluate bone density, tooth-loss conditions, and other factors that may affect surgical planning. Patients then receive a proposed treatment plan and an itemized quotation covering implant systems, prosthetic options, estimated treatment timelines, and any additional procedures such as bone grafting or sinus lifts.

This preliminary stage allows patients to review treatment details before arranging flights and accommodation in Lagos.

The initial visit to Nigeria typically lasts between three and 14 days and includes clinical examination, implant surgery, and temporary prosthetic fitting if necessary.

Upon arrival at Perfect Aesthetic Dental Clinic, patients undergo a comprehensive examination and a Periapical X-ray, 3D cone-beam CT scan. This enables Dr. P to finalize implant placement positions, angulation, and depth. The imaging also helps determine whether additional procedures, including bone grafting, are required.

Implant placement is performed under local anesthesia, with sedation available upon request. The clinic utilizes advanced technology to support surgical planning and placement accuracy.

Single-tooth implant procedures may take 20-30 minutes, while full-arch All-on-4 or All-on-6 treatments can require several hours, particularly when combined with extractions or bone augmentation.

After surgery, patients receive medication, dietary guidance, and follow-up examinations before returning home. Temporary prostheses may be provided in eligible cases, allowing patients to maintain dental function while osseointegration takes place.

The third phase occurs while patients are abroad. During this time, the titanium implants integrate with the jawbone through osseointegration.

Depending on the implant system used, this healing period generally lasts between three and six months. Patients continue follow-up consultations remotely through photographs, symptom updates, and online check-ins with Dr. P’s team.

Some premium implant surfaces can help shorten healing times by supporting faster bone integration, particularly in patients with lower bone density.

Patients then return to Lagos for the final treatment phase, which also typically lasts three to 14 days.

Dentists first confirm successful osseointegration through imaging before taking digital impressions using intraoral scanning technology. These scans are used to fabricate the final ceramic or zirconia prosthesis.

During the fitting stage, the team assesses and adjusts bite alignment, symmetry, color, and overall fit before permanently attaching the restoration to the implants.

Patients receive long-term care instructions and warranty documentation upon completion of treatment.

Under Dr. P’s standard pathway, treatment typically spans four to eight months from initial consultation to final restoration, although patients are only required to stay in Nigeria during the two treatment phases.

Some single-tooth implant cases with sufficient bone volume may qualify for immediate loading, allowing a temporary crown to be placed on the same day as surgery and reducing treatment to a single extended stay. However, full-arch implant rehabilitation generally requires two separate visits under internationally recognized protocols.
