Faruku Muhammed arrest in Kebbi State highlights swift police response after the 36-year-old security guard allegedly assaulted a 10-year-old girl at an Islamiyya school in Jega, underscoring commitment to child safety

In Birnin Kebbi, Kebbi State, on 17 June 2026, Commissioner of Police Umar Hadejia announced the arrest of Faruku Muhammed, a 36-year-old security guard attached to an Islamiyya school in Jega Local Government Area, following allegations of sexual assault against a 10-year-old girl from the same community.

Faruku Muhammed, who resides in the Tungar Zabarmawa area of Jega, was taken into custody after police received a complaint from the minor’s family.

Authorities stated that on 14 June 2026, at about 4:30 p.m., the suspect allegedly lured the girl into his room located within the school premises where he worked.

Commissioner Umar Hadejia disclosed the development during a press briefing, stressing that the matter remains under active investigation.

This decisive intervention reflects the Kebbi State Police Command’s firm stance on safeguarding children and vulnerable groups.

In recent months, the command has intensified operations against various crimes, including banditry and terrorism, while consistently urging the public to report abuse and exploitation promptly.

Parents and guardians have been encouraged to remain vigilant, with assurances that all credible information shared with law enforcement will be treated seriously to help curb such incidents across the state.

The case adds to broader efforts addressing child protection challenges in northern Nigeria, where isolated incidents of this nature occasionally surface amid wider security concerns.
