Osun State University, UNIOSUN, Osogbo, Nigeria, on June 25, 2026, has announced the temporary closure of its College of Law, Ifetedo Campus, following the tragic death of a 400-level student of Criminology and Security Studies, Miss Grace Osunlakin, in a development that has sent shockwaves across the university community.

The UNIOSUN Ifetedo Campus closure student death decision was confirmed in an official statement issued by the institution’s Public Relations Officer, Mr Ademola Adesoji, who described the incident as deeply painful and extended condolences to the bereaved family and affected stakeholders.

According to the university, the student reportedly passed away on Wednesday, June 24, 2026, prompting immediate concern and reflection within the institution’s management structure.

The management stated that the closure was taken after careful consideration of the circumstances surrounding the incident, with the aim of allowing emotions to settle while also creating space for a comprehensive review of key welfare infrastructure on campus.

It explained that the review would focus on healthcare facilities, medical personnel, and water supply systems within the Ifetedo Campus, as part of broader efforts to address long-standing operational concerns and strengthen student safety.

The university said: “May Almighty God grant the family of the deceased, the students, and the entire University community the strength to bear this irreparable loss.”

It further reassured students, parents, and staff that steps are being taken to ensure a thorough assessment of the situation and to implement necessary reforms aimed at preventing a recurrence of similar incidents.

The institution urged calm and cooperation from all stakeholders as it works towards restoring normal academic activities once safety and welfare standards are fully reviewed and improved.

The closure adds to ongoing discussions around infrastructure and student welfare in tertiary institutions across Nigeria, with UNIOSUN indicating that further updates will be communicated as investigations and assessments progress.
