The Obidient Movement has given strong Obidient Movement assurance that Peter Obi and Rabiu Kwankwaso will be on the ballot in 2027, dismissing fears over recent legal challenges facing the NDC
The Obidient Movement on Monday assured its supporters that the Nigeria Democratic Congress presidential candidate, Peter Obi, and his running mate, Rabiu Kwankwaso, would be on the ballot in the 2027 general elections.
National Coordinator of the movement, Dr Yunusa Tanko, gave the assurance at a press conference in Abuja, where he dismissed fears that recent political and legal developments could derail the opposition coalition.
Tanko was reacting to Friday’s judgment by Justice Isah Dashen of the Federal High Court in Lokoja, which set aside the court’s December 10, 2025, judgment directing the Independent National Electoral Commission to register the NDC as a political party.
Reassuring the Obidients on Monday, Tanko stressed that the alliance being built around Obi and Kwankwaso remained strong and would not be weakened by attempts to frustrate it.
“We want to reassure our supporters that the coalition is intact and growing stronger. Mr Peter Obi and Dr Rabiu Kwankwaso will be on the ballot in 2027. No amount of intimidation or legal manoeuvring can stop the will of the people,” he said.
The Obidients national coordinator noted that the movement was aware of concerns arising from recent court pronouncements and political tensions, but insisted that the opposition would continue to pursue its goals through lawful and peaceful means.
According to him, the coalition was determined to offer Nigerians an alternative to the ruling party. “We are building a broad-based movement that reflects the aspirations of ordinary Nigerians.
Our focus is to rescue the country through democratic engagement, not violence or division,” he said.
He urged supporters to remain calm, united and committed to the democratic process, adding that the movement would continue to defend the rights of its leaders and members.
This Obidient Movement assurance comes as the NDC prepares to file an appeal against the Lokoja judgment, insisting the ruling would not prevent the opposition from participating in the 2027 elections.
