Three young men killed in fatal Abuja road crash

Three young men were killed in a fatal Abuja Road Crash on Deidei-Idu-Karmo New Road, Abuja, on Sunday, July 20, 2026, after a Toyota Camry carrying four occupants lost control and crashed into the culvert of a bridge, according to the Federal Road Safety Corps (FRSC).

The crash occurred at about 3:45pm and involved a Toyota Camry with registration number ABC 833 CE.

FRSC officials said three occupants died at the scene, while a fourth was rescued alive and taken to hospital for treatment.

FRSC Route Commander Jubrin Lawal, who led the rescue operation, said one body was recovered immediately, while two others remained trapped inside the mangled vehicle until emergency responders cut through the wreckage.

“The fourth occupant survived and was rescued from the car by FRSC emergency responders who arrived shortly after the incident,” Lawal said.

Lawal attributed the crash to excessive speed, explaining that the driver lost control before the vehicle slammed into the bridge culvert with significant force.

The impact was so severe that the car’s engine was thrown into a nearby river.

The recovered bodies were deposited at a nearby morgue, while the injured survivor remained in hospital receiving treatment.

The rescue operation caused traffic disruption along the busy corridor for several hours, prompting authorities to advise motorists to use alternative routes until the scene was cleared.

FRSC Head of Operations, FCT Command, Sabitu Abdu, confirmed the incident and praised officers from the Deidei Unit Command for their swift response.

“The swift deployment of personnel to the scene helped in rescuing the survivor and in recovering the trapped bodies from the wrecked vehicle,” Abdu said.

Abdu added that rapid emergency response plays a critical role in reducing casualties and restoring normal traffic flow following serious road accidents.

The crash adds to the continuing challenge of road traffic fatalities in Nigeria, where the FRSC has consistently identified speeding as one of the leading causes of fatal collisions.

The corps regularly urges motorists to obey speed limits and drive responsibly, particularly on major highways, to reduce preventable deaths.
