Rtr Simbiat Adigun, President of the Rotaract Club of Ikoyi, led the presentation of a baby scale, an adult weighing scale and a thermometer to Anikantamo Primary Health Centre, a donation aimed at strengthening maternal and child healthcare within the community.
The handover followed a needs assessment carried out at the facility under Adigun’s direction, which identified gaps in basic diagnostic equipment for expectant mothers, newborns and other patients.
Moments after the equipment was handed over, a newborn baby was weighed using the new baby scale, an early and telling sign of the donation’s real world impact.
For Adigun, the timing underscored the point of the exercise, that a needs based approach to service could deliver results from the very first day.
District 9112 Rotaract Representative, Rtr Micheal Ekerin, attended the event to lend his support to initiative.
Rtn Tony Abu, Youth Service Chair, was also commended for his continued encouragement of youth led service projects across the district, a gesture Adigun and her team welcomed warmly.
The donation forms part of the club’s broader Create Lasting Impact initiative, a theme Adigun has championed since taking office and which centres on identifying practical community needs rather than one off gestures.
Club members and prospects who took part in the outreach were recognised by their President for their commitment to seeing the project through.
Doctors and nurses at Anikantamo Primary Health Centre welcomed the gesture, with reliable weighing and temperature monitoring equipment considered fundamental to safe maternal and newborn care.
