Rtn. Layi Abidoye assumes office as Rotary District 9112 Governor on 1 July 2026 and delivers his maiden State of the District Address live online

Rotarian Olayioye Abidoye, the incoming District Governor of Rotary International District 9112, is set to assume the mantle of leadership on Wednesday, 1 July 2026, marking the formal commencement of a new Rotary year for a district that covers Lagos and Ogun States.

In a significant departure from tradition, Rotarian Abidoye will precede his inauguration with a digital broadcast of his maiden State of the District Address, opening a direct line between the incoming governor and thousands of Rotarians, partners, and observers watching from across the country and beyond.

The broadcast is scheduled for 10:00 AM prompt, streamed simultaneously on YouTube, Facebook, and TikTok, a move that underscores a deliberate commitment to accessibility and transparent leadership from the very first day of his tenure.

District 9112, which covers sections of Lagos and Ogun States, has been co-hosting the West Africa Project Fair 2026, scheduled for November this year, alongside District 9111, with Rotarian Abidoye expected to play a central role as District Governor in that regional showcase. His transition into office therefore arrives at a pivotal moment for the district on the West African Rotary calendar.

Rotarian Abidoye’s journey to the governorship has been years in the making.

He was confirmed as District Governor-nominee for the 2026 to 2027 Rotary year as far back as 2025, appearing at key district events in that capacity while quietly building the framework of the administration he would lead.

As District Governor-elect, he convened the 2026 District Team Learning Seminar, describing it as a mandatory leadership programme for district officers invited to serve ahead of the 2026 to 2027 Rotary year, a signal of the disciplined, structured approach that will define his governorship.

The State of the District Address is itself a tradition of transparency and forward thinking within Rotary leadership, offering the incoming governor’s first formal articulation of priorities, strategic direction, and a vision for measurable impact.

That Rotarian Abidoye has chosen to deliver it openly and digitally, rather than behind closed doors, speaks to a recognition that Rotary’s story must be told to the widest possible audience.

He inherits a district still in its formative years.

District 9112 was created following the split of the former District 9110, with the reorganisation taking effect in July 2024.

Rotarian Abidoye becomes only the third person to govern the district since its formation, following pioneer District Governor Rotarian Femi Adenekan and outgoing governor Rotarian Lanre Adedoyin, whose tenure concludes on 30 June 2026.

Rotarian Adedoyin, whose administration ran from 1 July 2025, declared upon his own installation that his goal was to unite hearts and actions for meaningful service, a theme that resonated through his year in office.

His tenure saw continued investment in the district’s vocational training infrastructure, with functioning centres in Odomola, Epe, and Ikorodu in Lagos State, as well as a Prostate Cancer Centre in Sagamu and an Eye Centre in Ota, both in Ogun State.

It is this foundation that Rotarian Abidoye now inherits and is expected to build upon.

The incoming governor has already demonstrated a capacity for convening leadership at the highest levels.

He was present at the Town Hall Meeting hosted for Rotary International President Francesco Arezzo at the Rotary Centre in Ikeja GRA, Lagos, where Arezzo enjoined Rotarians to unite for good, create positive change, and remain committed to the seven areas of Rotary focus, from peacebuilding and disease prevention to environmental sustainability.

The West Africa Project Fair 2026 alone is expected to bring together Rotary leaders, development agencies, corporate organisations, and donor institutions, with a focus on key sectors such as water, education, and healthcare, presenting an early and high-profile test of Rotarian Abidoye’s ability to anchor District 9112’s presence on the regional stage.

At 8:00 AM on 1 July 2026, Rotarians across the district and well-wishers around the world will have the opportunity to hear, for the first time in his own words, the direction that Rotarian Olayioye Layi Abidoye intends to take one of Nigeria’s youngest but fastest-growing Rotary districts.

The broadcast promises to be more than a formality. It is the opening chapter of a governorship that District 9112 will be watching closely.
