The recognition was presented during the 2026 NUJ Lagos State Council Correspondents’ Chapel Press Week and Awards Ceremony, held under the theme, “Journalism and Nation Building: Promoting Accountability and Good Governance.”

The honour recognises media professionals whose commitment to ethical journalism, professional excellence and public interest reporting has contributed to the development of the media industry and the strengthening of democratic values.

For Abiodun, the recognition marks another significant milestone in a career that has spanned traditional journalism, newsroom management, digital publishing, public relations and corporate communications.

He began his journalism career as a Sub-Editor at City People Magazine before establishing DASCENARIO and DASCENARIO TV Online, where he has continued to promote balanced reporting, investigative journalism and public interest storytelling.

His work across different areas of the media industry has also positioned him as a media strategist and communications professional with experience in developing platforms and communication strategies that connect organisations with their audiences.

Beyond his publishing activities, Abiodun serves as the Media Head of BOCA Energy Resources Ltd, where he has worked to strengthen the profile of the indigenous oil and gas company through strategic media engagement, public relations and stakeholder communications.

Reacting to the recognition, an elated Abiodun expressed gratitude to the leadership and members of the NUJ Lagos State Council Correspondents’ Chapel for finding him worthy of the honour.

“I am deeply honoured and sincerely grateful to the Nigeria Union of Journalists, Lagos State Council Correspondents’ Chapel, for this prestigious Certificate of Credence,” Abiodun said.

“I accept this recognition with humility, not as a personal achievement alone, but as a celebration of every journalist, editor, media practitioner, and colleague who has inspired, supported, and walked this professional journey with me.”

The media executive described the recognition as a shared victory for journalism, stressing the importance of collaboration, integrity and a commitment to truth in achieving excellence within the profession.

“This award is a win for all of us. It reinforces the importance of credible journalism, ethical reporting, and responsible media practice in strengthening democracy and promoting good governance,” he said.

“I dedicate this honour to my colleagues in the profession and pledge to continue contributing meaningfully to the advancement of journalism and nation-building.”

Abiodun also commended the organisers of the Press Week and Awards Ceremony for sustaining a platform that celebrates professional achievement while encouraging journalists to remain committed to accountability and impactful reporting.

“The NUJ Correspondents’ Chapel deserves commendation for consistently celebrating excellence and creating opportunities that inspire media practitioners to uphold the highest standards of the profession,” he said.

“Such recognition motivates us to continue serving society with integrity, courage, and objectivity.”

The Certificate of Credence adds to Abiodun’s growing profile as a media executive whose career has brought together journalism, corporate communications and digital media innovation.

His professional journey has also included efforts to support and mentor emerging communication professionals, contributing to the development of talent within an evolving media landscape.

The recognition comes at a time when the role of journalism in promoting transparency and holding institutions accountable remains central to public discourse in Nigeria.

The theme of the 2026 NUJ Lagos State Council Correspondents’ Chapel Press Week similarly reflects the profession’s broader responsibility in strengthening democratic institutions and promoting good governance through credible and responsible reporting.

For Abiodun, the honour represents both a celebration of past contributions and a renewed call to uphold the principles that underpin responsible journalism.

As the media industry continues to adapt to the rapid growth of digital platforms and changing audience expectations, the recognition serves as a powerful reminder of the enduring value of professionalism, credibility and public interest in journalism.
