The Kano State Police Command, led by Commissioner of Police Adamu Bakori, has arrested a woman following an alleged violent assault on her boyfriend in the Badawa area of Kano State.

Police said the man sustained critical injuries during the incident and remains in hospital while detectives investigate the circumstances surrounding the attack.

According to the Kano State Police Command, officers took the suspect into custody shortly after the incident. Investigators have launched a full inquiry to determine what led to the confrontation and establish the sequence of events.

In a statement, the command confirmed that the woman allegedly stabbed her boyfriend and inflicted severe genital injuries during the altercation.

“The Kano State Police Command has arrested a female suspect for allegedly stabbing her boyfriend and completely cutting off his manhood during a violent altercation in Badawa,” the statement said.

Police added that the victim is receiving specialist medical treatment, while detectives continue gathering evidence and interviewing witnesses.

Authorities have not disclosed the identities or ages of those involved, and no formal charges had been announced at the time of reporting.

The incident has drawn widespread attention because of the severity of the injuries and has renewed discussion about domestic violence involving intimate partners.

Investigators are expected to determine whether there was a history of conflict between the couple and whether additional offences may have been committed.

The case follows several reported incidents involving serious genital injuries during domestic disputes in different parts of Nigeria.

In May 2025, police in Rivers State arrested a 43-year-old woman after she allegedly bit her partner during an argument in Port Harcourt.

In October 2024, police in Ogun State arrested a 28-year-old woman over allegations that she used a sharp object to injure her husband’s genitals during a domestic quarrel.

A similar incident was also reported in Kaduna State in June 2024, where neighbours intervened before an alleged attack could be completed.

While those previous cases occurred under different circumstances, they have contributed to growing concern among legal and social welfare advocates about the escalation of violence within intimate relationships.

Experts have repeatedly called for improved access to conflict resolution services, mental health support and stronger public awareness campaigns aimed at preventing domestic abuse.

The investigation remains ongoing, and the Kano State Police Command has urged members of the public to allow investigators to complete their work while avoiding speculation that could undermine the inquiry.
