Lameco flyover in Osogbo shows cracks weeks after commissioning by Governor Adeleke

Visible cracks, ponding water, and pavement defects have emerged on the Lameco Flyover Bridge in Osogbo, Osun State, triggering emergency public warnings on Friday 24 July 2026.

The 672-metre structure was commissioned by Governor Ademola Adeleke on 1 July 2026, barely three weeks earlier.

Social media users, including Prince Adeshina, shared videos and images showing worrying signs on the recently opened flyover.

The post warned residents to stay safe and described the project as substandard, echoing earlier criticisms of the governor’s infrastructure delivery.

Governor Adeleke had hailed the Lameco Flyover as a landmark achievement of his administration’s local content policy.

The project, executed by indigenous contractors, was intended to ease chronic traffic congestion at the Lameco junction in the state capital.

The rapid appearance of defects has intensified political debate in Osun State, which is heading toward a governorship election on 15 August 2026.

Critics argue the issues point to rushed or poor-quality work, while supporters maintain that surface problems do not necessarily indicate structural failure and require professional engineering assessment.

At the time of reporting, the Osun State Government had not issued an official response addressing the reported cracks or any remedial measures. No confirmation of imminent collapse has come from independent structural engineers.

This development comes amid broader scrutiny of infrastructure projects across Nigeria, where ambitious delivery timelines sometimes clash with quality concerns.

Experts generally advise that early signs of distress in new bridges warrant prompt inspection by qualified professionals to ensure public safety.

Residents and motorists using the Lameco area are advised to exercise caution while authorities clarify the situation and, if necessary, carry out repairs or temporary restrictions.
