A 77-year-old farmer, Boboye Iwasanmi, was found dead at his farm in Oligbe farm settlement, Okitipupa Local Government Area of Ondo State, on August 15, 2026, while the Ondo State Police Command has arrested middle-aged man Omowole Ikulala in connection with the death.
The incident was reported by Iwasanmi’s wife, Mrs Veronica Iwasanmi, after she returned from fetching water at the farm and discovered that her husband was missing.

According to Abayomi Jimoh, spokesperson for the Ondo State Police Command, Mrs Iwasanmi later found her husband’s lifeless body in a pool of blood.
The police said the farmer had what appeared to be machete wounds to his head and neck, prompting investigators to begin examining the circumstances surrounding the killing.
“Police operatives have arrested one Ikulala in connection with the killing,” Jimoh told the News Agency of Nigeria.
Following the report, police operatives were deployed to the farm, where officers examined the scene before evacuating Iwasanmi’s body to the State Specialist Hospital Mortuary in Okitipupa.
The arrest of Ikulala marks an important development in the investigation, although the police have not disclosed the motive for the alleged killing or the nature of the evidence linking the suspect to the incident.
The case comes against a wider backdrop of security concerns affecting farming communities in parts of Ondo State, where farmers have previously faced threats linked to criminal activity and violence.
However, the circumstances surrounding Iwasanmi’s death remain under investigation, and the allegation against Ikulala has yet to be tested in court.
Commissioner of Police Felix Ohagwu has ordered a thorough investigation into the case and directed officers to establish what happened at the farm and determine whether others were involved.
Jimoh assured the public that anyone found culpable would face the full weight of the law.

For the family of the elderly farmer, the investigation now carries the difficult task of providing answers about how a routine day at the farm ended in a fatal discovery.
