Olukanyinsola Odebode, a 30-year-old resident of Gainsborough Road in Cefn Golau, Tredegar, was sentenced at Swansea Crown Court on 21 August 2026 to a 12-year extended term after being convicted of raping one woman and sexually assaulting another.

The court heard that the offences took place between June 2024 and September 2025. Odebode first sexually assaulted and raped a woman in the Gwent Police area.

After his arrest and release on bail he went on to sexually assault a second woman in the Dyfed-Powys Police area.

Prosecuting counsel Mark Wyeth KC told the court that Odebode “humiliated and degraded his victims” and posed a clear danger to women. “There were life-altering consequences for his victims,” Wyeth said.

He noted that a probation report highlighted Odebode’s complete rejection of the jury’s findings and his attitudes of entitlement, concluding that he posed a high risk of serious harm.

One of the victims described Odebode as “very predatory” in her impact statement. The court was also told that he had filmed some of the sexual activity.

Since 2019 seven other women had raised concerns with police about Odebode’s sexual behaviour, including allegations of rape, indecent exposure, sexual assault and stalking. Those earlier matters were investigated but did not result in convictions.

Judge Huw Rees said he had concluded that Odebode was a “sexually precocious person”.

The judge noted the profound effect of the offences on the two victims and the probation officer’s concern over Odebode’s lack of insight. An extended sentence was necessary, the judge ruled, to protect the public.

Defence counsel Matt Murphy told the court it was to be hoped that while serving his sentence Odebode would develop the insight into his offending which he currently lacked. Odebode had no previous convictions.

The 12-year extended sentence comprises nine years in custody followed by three years on licence.

Odebode must serve two-thirds of the custodial term before he can apply for release, with the Parole Board deciding whether he is safe to be freed. He will remain a registered sex offender for the rest of his life.

The case has drawn attention to the lasting impact on the victims and the importance of public protection measures in serious sexual offence cases.
