Prince Daniel Afamefune Chukwujindu, a 23-year-old Microbiology student of Delta State University, Abraka, has been crowned the 11th Ajeh of Ekwuoma Kingdom in Ika North East Local Government Area of Delta State.

Chukwujindu was formally installed as Ezeagu-Ukpo II on Friday, September 4, 2026, following the completion of the burial rites of his late father, King Chinedu Samuel Chukwujindu, Ezeagu-Ukpo I.

The late monarch died on June 2, 2026, bringing the traditional succession process into focus in the kingdom.

The emergence of the young monarch followed Ekwuoma’s established traditional system, under which the first son of a reigning king succeeds his father.

Speaking after his installation, the new Ajeh expressed gratitude to the people of Ekwuoma for their confidence and support.

“I appreciate the people of Ekwuoma for their confidence and support. I pledge to uphold the customs and traditions of our kingdom and promote peace, unity and development,” he said.

The 23-year-old DELSU student crowned king has now assumed a traditional leadership role while continuing his academic journey in Microbiology.

Chukwujindu appealed to the people of Ekwuoma to rally behind the traditional institution, stressing that meaningful development would require the participation of the entire community.

“I call on all sons and daughters of Ekwuoma to unite behind the traditional institution. We must work collectively towards building a stronger and more prosperous community,” he said.

The young monarch also called for closer cooperation among the traditional institution, government and residents of the kingdom.

According to Chukwujindu, collaboration among the different stakeholders would be essential to addressing local challenges and creating conditions for sustainable development.

“The traditional institution, government and our people must cooperate to address the challenges facing Ekwuoma and advance the development of our kingdom,” he said.

His installation represents a significant transition for Ekwuoma, coming only months after the death of his father and placing a young university student at the head of the traditional institution.

The new king’s immediate challenge will be to balance his academic responsibilities with the expectations that come with traditional leadership, while preserving the customs of the kingdom and responding to the aspirations of its residents.

For the people of Ekwuoma, the coronation marks both the end of a period of mourning for the late monarch and the beginning of a new chapter under Ezeagu-Ukpo II.
