The Nigeria Football Federation and National Sports Commission are set to announce a new head coach for the Super Falcons today as Nigeria begins preparations for the 2028 Olympic Games qualifying campaign.

The announcement is expected to be made in Abuja, with a senior NSC official confirming that the new technical head is being appointed ahead of the team’s upcoming Olympic qualifier.

The identity of the incoming coach has not been officially disclosed, although several names have been linked with the vacant position, including former Falcons coaches Thomas Dennerby, Florence Omagbemi and Randy Waldrum.

The appointment follows the departure of Justine Madugu and his technical crew after the Falcons’ disappointing 2026 Women’s Africa Cup of Nations campaign in Morocco. Nigeria exited the tournament at the quarter-final stage after a 1-0 defeat to Cameroon.

The setback also contributed to Nigeria missing the 2027 FIFA Women’s World Cup for the first time in the competition’s history.

The incoming coach will therefore inherit a team in need of stability and a fresh technical direction, with the immediate priority being qualification for the 2028 Olympic Games.

Nigeria’s Olympic qualifying campaign is scheduled to resume in October, with the Super Falcons set to face Comoros in the next round.

The appointment is expected to mark the beginning of a new chapter for the 10-time African champions as they seek to rebuild and return to the Olympic stage. Nigeria last featured in the women’s football tournament at the 2008 Beijing Games.
