On Wednesday, 16 September 2026, four people were killed in a crash at about 4am near Straight Gate School, Ipara Remo, on the Lagos-Ibadan Expressway.

The collision involved a blue Mitsubishi Canter with registration number FGE 753 XA and an ash-coloured HOWO truck with registration number T-695 KT.

Chief Route Commander Afolabi Odunsi, spokesperson for the Ogun State Sector Command of the Federal Road Safety Corps, said eight people were involved. Four male adults were killed. One male adult was injured. Three people were unhurt.

Afolabi Odunsi said preliminary findings pointed to speeding and wrongful overtaking. “The Mitsubishi driver, reportedly travelling at high speed, rammed into the moving truck while attempting to overtake. Fatigue was also identified as a contributing factor, as the driver was reportedly fatigued during the journey.”

The FRSC rescue team received the report at 4:33am and reached the scene at 4:39am, a six-minute response.

The injured person was taken to Victory Hospital, Ogere. The bodies of the dead were deposited at FOS Mortuary, Ipara. The wrecked vehicles were handed to the Police Motor Traffic Division, Isara Division.

Ogun State Sector Commander Corps Commander Oludare Ogunjobi urged motorists to avoid speeding, fatigue and unsafe overtaking, especially on early-morning trips, and to rest before long journeys.
