Minister of Power Joseph Olasunkanmi Tegbe has urged All Progressives Congress (APC) members and President Bola Ahmed Tinubu’s support groups in Oyo State to strengthen party unity and mobilise at grassroots level ahead of the 2027 general elections.

Tegbe made the call during a series of engagements in Ibadan, where he met the APC Reconciliation Committee, the party’s state leadership and representatives of Tinubu support groups.

The minister’s appeal comes days after a coalition of APC support groups in Oyo State publicly called for greater recognition and engagement from the Tinubu administration.

The coalition said many grassroots organisers who worked for Tinubu’s 2023 campaign had not been sufficiently integrated into governance.

At the APC Reconciliation Committee meeting, chaired by Senator Olufemi Lanlehin, Tegbe commended the committee’s efforts to heal divisions that emerged following the party’s primaries.

He pledged to support the reconciliation process by engaging aspirants and other stakeholders who may still have grievances.

Lanlehin, in response, thanked the minister and said the committee would continue discussions with aspirants and party stakeholders until greater unity was achieved.

Tegbe subsequently visited the APC state secretariat at Oke-Ado, where State Chairman Chief Moses Alake Adeyemo and members of the State Executive Committee received him.

The minister urged party leaders to ensure that different interests and political tendencies within the APC were carried along, while groups to take the administration’s policies and programmes into communities and mobilise support for Tinubu and other APC candidates in reaffirming his commitment to supporting the party’s structures.

His engagements continued at the Oyo State Secretariat of the Tinubu Support Group in Yemetu, where he met supporters and grassroots organisers.

Tegbe encouraged the groups to take the administration’s policies and programmes into communities and mobilise support for Tinubu and other APC candidates in 2027.

A central part of his message was the Federal Government’s ongoing power-sector reforms.

Tegbe argued that improvements in electricity generation and transmission could provide a tangible way for support groups to explain the administration’s policies to voters 5,403.3 megawatts on September 22, according to data from the Transmission Company of Nigeria, althoughbe has previously said generation and transmission levels had exceeded 5,000MW in recent weeks.

During his first 100 days in office, he focused on stabilising Nigeria’s electricity system, restoring stranded generation capacity and laying the groundwork for deeper grid reforms and investment.

Recent figures provide some support for the minister’s account of higher system availability.

Nigeria’s available electricity generation reached 5,403.3 megawatts on September 22, according to data from the Transmission Company of Nigeria, although only 4,379.07MW was allocated for delivery to distribution companies.

Tegbe has previously said generation and transmission levels had exceeded 5,000MW in recent weeks.

During his first 100 days in office, he also highlighted the restoration of the 375MW Alaoji power plant after three years offline and additional transmission capacity unlocked in Lagos and Abuja.

The minister has, however, acknowledged that improvements in national generation do not automatically translate into reliable electricity for every community.

“Admittedly, many Nigerians are still without reliable power, and I understand the frustration of hearing about progress you haven’t personally felt yet,” Tegbe said recently, adding that he would not pretend that the sector’s problems had been solved.

That acknowledgement provides an important context to the minister’s political message in Ibadan.

While the Federal Government points to improvements in generation, transmission and metering, electricity reliability remains uneven across the country.

Tegbe was appointed Minister of Power in June 2026 after President Tinubu nominated him following the resignation of Adebayo Adelabu.

The State House described Tegbe as a fiscal, economic and institutional reform strategist with more than 35 years of experience across the public and private sectors.

His latest engagements also come at a politically significant moment for the Oyo APC recognition shows that questions about grassroots engagement remain part of the party’s internal conversation.

The party is preparing for the 2027 elections while managing internal reconciliation and grassroots mobilisation.

Leaders of the support groups who met Tegbe thanked him for his engagement and pledged to work towards the party’s electoral objectives.

The wider political picture remains more complex, however. The recent appeal by some Oyo APC support groups for greater recognition shows that questions about grassroots engagement remain part of the party’s internal conversation.

For Tegbe, the immediate task is therefore twofold: keeping the party’s various interests together while communicating the government’s record to communities.

His Ibadan meetings placed unity, grassroots organisation and the power sector at the centre of that message as the APC begins its preparations for the 2027 electoral cycle.
