A 29-year-old suspect arrested in connection with the robbery at Ghost and Spirit Lounge in Abule-Egba, Lagos, has reportedly opened up about his alleged involvement in the incident.
The suspect, identified as Ezekiel Sunday Obi, was arrested at the Lagos-Ogun boundary in the early hours of Sunday, September 27, following an investigation into the robbery.
The incident occurred around 5am on Saturday, September 26, at Ghost and Spirit Lounge on Ekoro Road, Abule-Egba.
According to the Lagos State Police Command, a group of armed men, reportedly carrying an AK-47 rifle, arrived at the lounge in a grey Mercedes-Benz GLK SUV and robbed a male patron of his gold wrist chain and rings.
CCTV footage of the incident, which circulated widely on social media, showed several men around parked vehicles outside the lounge.
The footage showed one of the suspects approaching a patron before another man emerged from the grey SUV and reportedly fired what appeared to be a gunshot.
The victim was subsequently dispossessed of his valuables before some of the suspects returned to the SUV and fled the scene.
Police investigations subsequently led to Obi’s arrest at the Toll Gate area of the Lagos-Ogun boundary.
The suspect is currently assisting investigators as the command works to establish the circumstances surrounding the robbery and identify other members of the alleged gang.
The robbery had generated concern among residents and social media users after footage of the incident emerged online.
The lounge management was also reported to have offered a ₦5 million bounty for information leading to the arrest of those responsible for the attack.
The Lagos State Commissioner of Police, Fatai Tijani, said efforts were ongoing to arrest the remaining suspects and recover the exhibits connected to the robbery.
The police have not disclosed the full details of Obi’s alleged confession or established his specific role in the robbery publicly.
The command has assured that the investigation will continue until the other suspected members of the gang are identified and apprehended.
