A Nigerian man, Chi Nedum, has accused three officers of the Imo State Police Command of allegedly extorting ₦15,000 from him and his brother in Owerri.
Nedum made the allegation in a post on X, where he described how the incident reportedly occurred after his car developed an unusual sound.
According to him, he pulled over and contacted a mechanic to help identify the fault. While they were test-running the vehicle to determine the cause of the sound, the three officers allegedly entered the car and accused them of parking wrongly.
Nedum said he and his brother explained that they had stopped because of the suspected mechanical problem, but the officers allegedly demanded money from them.
He claimed they eventually paid ₦15,000 during the encounter, describing the incident as unfair and an abuse of power.
The man called on the Nigeria Police Force and the Owerri police authorities to investigate the allegation and identify the officers involved.
The allegation has not been independently verified, and no response from the Imo State Police Command regarding the specific incident was found in the reports reviewed.
The incident comes amid previous directives by the police command warning officers against extortion, harassment and other forms of misconduct. In September 2025, the command said complaints of such conduct would be investigated and officers found culpable would face disciplinary action.
