The Nigeria Police Force has released former Imo State Governor Rochas Okorocha on bail after questioning him over allegations of criminal conspiracy, forgery and impersonation.
Okorocha, who previously represented Imo West Senatorial District in the National Assembly, was reportedly arrested on Monday night at the REIZ Continental Hotel in Abuja and released after approximately an hour of interrogation.

According to a report by The Punch, the Force Public Relations Officer, CSP Anietie Iniedu, confirmed the former governor’s arrest and subsequent release.
Okorocha was also directed to return to the Force Headquarters on Tuesday for further questioning.
However, the newspaper said it could not independently confirm the details of the interrogation, as the police spokesperson did not respond to phone calls seeking clarification.
The police reportedly said investigations into the allegations were continuing but did not disclose specific details of the alleged offences.
The former governor’s arrest reportedly followed his failure to honour previous police invitations to appear for questioning as part of the investigation.
According to the report, Okorocha was initially invited to the Force Headquarters on September 2, 2026. The appointment was subsequently rescheduled to September 8 after a request from his lawyers.
He reportedly failed to attend the rescheduled appointment, prompting further action by the police.
The authorities were also reported to have obtained a bench warrant intended to compel his appearance for questioning.
However, the precise circumstances surrounding the alleged offences, including the claims of forgery, impersonation and criminal conspiracy, have not been fully disclosed.
Although Okorocha has been released on bail, the police investigation remains ongoing, and he was reportedly directed to return for further interrogation.
As of the time of the report, there was no indication that the former governor had been formally charged with an offence in connection with the allegations.
The police have yet to provide a detailed public account of the alleged forgery or explain the specific acts underpinning the accusations.
Okorocha’s release on bail does not determine the outcome of the investigation, and the allegations remain unproven.

Further developments will depend on the findings of the police investigation and any subsequent legal action taken by the authorities.
