JMG solar projects promise ₦152m in diesel savings

JMG Limited says hybrid solar installations at La Chaumiere Group and its Victoria Island branch could save more than ₦152 million annually while reducing diesel consumption and carbon emissions.

JMG solar projects promise ₦152m in diesel savings

JMG Limited is projecting more than ₦152 million in combined annual diesel savings from two hybrid solar installations commissioned in 2026, with projects at La Chaumiere Group and the company’s Victoria Island branch in Lagos expected to reduce fuel consumption by about 85,000 litres a year.

The figures, provided by JMG, highlight the potential financial benefits of combining solar generation with battery storage as Nigerian businesses contend with rising energy costs.

The projections cover two separate installations completed during the third quarter of 2026, according to the company’s project announcements.

The larger system serves La Chaumiere Group, a premium culinary and hospitality business in Lagos, while the second installation powers JMG’s own Victoria Island branch.

At a time when energy expenditure is putting pressure on Nigerian businesses, the projects offer an example of how alternative power systems could help organisations manage operating costs while improving electricity reliability.

A report published by The Guardian on 8 September 2026 highlighted the severity of the challenge, noting that diesel prices had risen to around ₦2,100 per litre in Lagos and Ogun states.

The report also cited concerns from the Manufacturers Association of Nigeria that energy expenses were consuming more than half of production costs for some manufacturers.

For businesses that depend on generators to maintain daily operations, the cost of electricity extends beyond fuel purchases to the wider challenge of protecting margins and maintaining consistent service.

JMG’s installation at La Chaumiere Group is expected to deliver the larger share of the projected savings.

The system combines 133.12 kilowatt-peak (kWp) of solar photovoltaic capacity, 160 kilowatts (kW) of hybrid inverter capacity and 163.84 kilowatt-hours (kWh) of high-voltage lithium battery storage.

According to JMG, the installation is expected to generate approximately 210.86 megawatt-hours (MWh) of electricity annually, offset around 57,000 litres of diesel consumption and deliver more than ₦102 million in yearly fuel savings.

The company also estimates that the system will prevent more than 76 tonnes of carbon dioxide emissions annually.

The second project, commissioned at JMG’s Victoria Island branch in July, has a solar generation capacity of 66kWp, supported by 80kW of hybrid inverter capacity and 81.92kWh of lithium battery storage.

The company estimates that the installation will generate 94.8MWh of electricity annually, supplying approximately 80 per cent of the branch’s energy requirements.

It is also projected to reduce diesel consumption by about 28,000 litres a year, save an estimated ₦50 million in fuel costs and avoid more than 37 tonnes of carbon dioxide emissions.

Combined, the two installations are expected to generate 305.66MWh of electricity annually and avoid approximately 113 tonnes of carbon dioxide emissions.

The projected ₦152 million in annual savings represents an estimate rather than a confirmed amount already realised.

Hussein Abbas, Head of Solar Division at JMG Limited, said the projects demonstrate how businesses can pursue reliability, lower operating expenses and sustainability together.

“Businesses need power they can depend on, but they also need solutions that make financial sense,” Abbas said in the company’s latest press release.

He added that JMG was deploying the technology within its own operations as well as providing it to customers, positioning the Victoria Island branch as a practical demonstration site for prospective clients, consultants and project developers.

The systems were designed using detailed load analysis and PVsyst simulation software to determine the appropriate capacity for each location.

The installations use LONGi solar modules, Deye hybrid inverters and Deye high-voltage lithium battery storage, according to the company.

The hybrid configuration brings together solar generation, battery storage and intelligent power management.

This approach can reduce reliance on diesel generators, although actual savings depend on factors including energy demand, weather conditions, system performance, maintenance requirements and the cost of any remaining grid or generator electricity.

The projects also build on JMG’s previous activity in the Nigerian solar market.

The company’s published project history includes a hybrid solar installation at St-Catherine Specialist Hospital in Abuja in June 2026 and an earlier project involving three NIPCO fuel stations, which the company reported in December 2025 as delivering ₦44.4 million in annual savings.

These earlier projects indicate that JMG has been extending its solar offering across different commercial and institutional settings, rather than focusing exclusively on a single sector.

Nevertheless, the latest savings figures remain company projections. Independent performance data showing the installations’ actual electricity output, diesel consumption and realised cost reductions over time would help establish how closely the systems meet their targets.

For Nigerian businesses considering similar investments, the financial case will ultimately depend on the cost of installation, financing arrangements, the lifespan of equipment and the amount of conventional power that solar and battery systems can reliably replace.

JMG says it provides turnkey solar and hybrid power solutions tailored to commercial, industrial and institutional energy requirements. Further details are available through the company’s official solar services page.

The two installations underline the growing importance of energy efficiency in business planning.

As fuel costs continue to challenge operating budgets, hybrid solar technology is emerging as one option for companies seeking greater control over their energy expenditure while reducing their environmental footprint.
