Prominent Islamic cleric Sheikh Yahaya Masussuka and his friend, Adamu Abubakar, have been killed by gunmen in Dutsin-Ma Local Government Area of Katsina State.

The Katsina State Police Command confirmed that the attack occurred at about 7:30pm on Monday outside the scholar’s residence. Two armed men on a motorcycle opened fire on the victims, inflicting fatal gunshot injuries.

Both men were rushed to a nearby hospital, where they were pronounced dead by doctors.

The Divisional Police Officer in Dutsin-Ma led a team to the scene after receiving the report. Commissioner of Police Ali Umar Fage has ordered the deployment of tactical and operational teams to the area to track down the suspects.

Police Public Relations Officer DSP Abubakar Sadiq Aliyu said an investigation had commenced and efforts were being intensified to apprehend those responsible.

The commissioner expressed condolences to the families, friends and followers of the deceased, assuring the public that the command would not relent until the perpetrators are brought to justice.

The motive for the attack remains unknown.
