The Nigeria Security and Civil Defence Corps (NSCDC) has suspended a Deputy Superintendent of Corps, Onoja Babayo Samuel, over an alleged shooting incident at Kubwa Market in Abuja.
The corps also ordered an Orderly Room Trial to determine the officer’s culpability in the incident, which reportedly occurred on October 25, 2026.
In a statement issued on Thursday, the NSCDC National Public Relations Officer, Babawale Afolabi, said the officer’s alleged conduct constituted a gross violation of the corps’ rules of engagement and standard operating procedures.
According to the statement, the Commandant-General of the NSCDC, Prof. Ahmed Abubakar Audi, directed the immediate suspension of the officer and the commencement of disciplinary proceedings.
Samuel was earlier arrested by the Federal Capital Territory Police Command over allegations that he fired shots into the air during a confrontation with traders at the market. Police said he had gone to the market armed with a pistol following reports that some traders had assaulted his wife.
A CZ pistol and 17 rounds of live 9mm ammunition were recovered from him during the arrest.
The NSCDC said the officer has been stripped of all official responsibilities pending the conclusion of the disciplinary process.
