Civil Police in Rio de Janeiro arrested 32-year-old jiu-jitsu fighter Lucas Portela Fontana Gomes on the morning of Friday, 6 November 2026, following a series of violent incidents at a condominium on Avenida Maracanã in the Maracanã/Tijuca area of the city’s northern zone.
The attacks began in the early hours of Thursday, 5 November, when noise from his own apartment prompted complaints from neighbours.

According to investigators from the 18th Police District, Gomes then broke into nearby units, shouting that he would kill everyone in the building.
He assaulted a woman in her mid-60s inside one apartment.
She was taken to Souza Aguiar Municipal Hospital and remained under observation in a stable condition.
A second resident who attempted to intervene was attacked inside the elevator, receiving at least 30 punches, kicks, elbow strikes and a rear-naked choke.
Security camera footage captured the sustained assault. A third resident escaped with her family down the stairs.
Military police from the 6th Battalion and municipal guards responded to the scene.
Gomes resisted arrest, attempted to seize an officer’s firearm and was shot in the leg before being subdued with a stun gun.
After hospital treatment he was initially released, as the case was provisionally treated as a lesser offence.
Once officers reviewed the elevator footage and heard further accounts, the 18th District sought and obtained a judicial order for his preventive detention on charges that include attempted femicide, threat, home invasion, bodily injury and resistance.
He told police he could not remember the events and disclosed that he uses anabolic steroids. He also has a prior annotation for leaving the scene of a traffic accident.
One victim told investigators that Gomes “had a great deal of hatred and the intention of killing someone.”
A delegate quoted the suspect as repeatedly shouting, “Since nobody is helping me, I am going to kill everybody.”
The case has drawn attention because of the severity of the attacks and the presence of clear video evidence.
The younger woman assaulted in the elevator has been discharged, while investigations continue to formalise the indictment.
No defence statement has yet been publicly reported.
The incident has heightened concerns among residents of the building about security and the risks posed by domestic disturbances that escalate into public violence.

Authorities are examining whether further charges will be added as the inquiry proceeds.
